Steam reformer furnaces Over the past 50 years, Linde Engineering has successfully delivered more than 250 Selas™ reformer furnaces worldwide. This proven technology is safe, reliable and cost-effective, delivering world-renowned levels of quality.

Through its furnace companies – Selas-Linde (Germany) and Selas Linde North America (United States), Linde Engineering has delivered over 250 Selas™ reformer furnaces worldwide. Designed to provide years of safe, reliable, efficient performance in challenging high-temperature environments, Selas™ reformers are typically used for applications such as refinery hydrogen, gas-to-liquids (GTL) processes, and syngas-based manufacture of chemicals such as TDI, MDI, ammonia and methanol. These furnaces are suited to new builds, revamps and expansion projects.

Selas™ furnaces are engineered for optimum thermal and mechanical properties. High-alloy catalyst tubes are the most expensive component in a steam-methane reformer (SMR) furnace. The Selas™ top-fired configuration, with a downward flow of process gas through multiple rows of catalyst-filled radiant tubes, was specifically developed to provide the most uniform and forgiving tube metal temperature profile. Tubes are top-supported, which eliminates compressive stresses.

Waste heat recovery typically involves generating steam for export and/or combustion air preheating. When required by local or national regulations, a Selas™ reformer furnace can be equipped with Low NOx burners or a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system to reduce NOx emissions to very low levels.

For certain applications and/or plant sizes, the modular cylindrical reformer furnace design supplied by our Hydro-Chem division is the most cost-effective solution. Over 500 of these have been delivered to date.

Selas™ was also one of the original developers of the side-fired reformer furnace configuration. We continue to support this design with service and spare parts.
